Romano Port — Strategic Infrastructure of Albania
Romano Port SA
Romano Port SA
in Albania
Strategic Petroleum and LPG Processing Hub.
Romano Port is a modern energy terminal for the handling, processing, and distribution of petroleum products and
liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), located in the Porto Romano area, approximately 6.5 kilometers north of the city of
Durrës, Albania.
The port represents one of the key energy infrastructure facilities in the country and plays a strategic role in the
import, storage, processing, and distribution of petroleum products not only within Albania but throughout the wider
Balkan region. Due to its geographic location and advanced infrastructure, the terminal serves as an important
logistical hub for the supply of energy resources.
The Romano Port company was established in 2003 as a concession-based infrastructure project. The architectural and
engineering design of the terminal was developed by an international consortium of leading Dutch engineering and
consulting firms with extensive experience in maritime energy and port infrastructure development.
Construction of the terminal was carried out between 2005 and 2008, after which the facility became fully operational.
In March 2009, the terminal officially received the status of an International Open Port, allowing it to handle
international cargo vessels and conduct large-scale energy logistics operations.
The terminal is equipped with a modern pipeline infrastructure designed to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of
petroleum products directly from maritime vessels to onshore storage and distribution facilities. Dedicated pipelines
are used for each category of product, ensuring a high level of operational safety and full compliance with
international environmental and industrial standards.
One of the key engineering components of the project is the South-West Breakwater, a large-scale maritime protection
structure designed to safeguard the port infrastructure and ensure safe terminal operations during challenging weather
conditions.
With a length of approximately 1,750 meters, the breakwater effectively protects the terminal’s maritime area from
strong waves and storms, ensuring stable and uninterrupted vessel handling and cargo processing.
Thanks to its advanced engineering infrastructure, strategic location, and high operational standards, the Romano Port
Energy Terminal plays a vital role in the development of regional energy logistics and supports reliable petroleum and
LPG supply across the Balkan markets.
